Shams Art Gallery is going to hold a photo exposition as this gallery has nationally done a notified study on photography. This is an aim to recognize the unknown and young photographers. This is a start and will definitely have some weaknesses but this is noticeable that the young photographers are very willing to participate.  Some years ago I visited a photo exhibition in a photo café done by a seventeen year old girl. The show had a purposeful concept and was really admirable. When I spoke to her and asked why she has shown her works in a café, she replied that she likes everyone to see her photos and prefers even exhibiting in a café rather than an art gallery.  The collection she had prepared was her own portrait beside a clock with upside-down numbers without pointers. It was something strange and special to understand such an artist that how had tried to get in touch with the addressees. We see talented photographers a lot as we study the history of photography in Iran. Photography’s entrance to Iran was in Qajar era (1221 Persian Calendar, 1842 AD) and at the same time Iran was facing a great political, cultural and social evolution at the society. And Iranian photography got European style even earlier than painting style of Kamal-ol-molk. The subjects of the photos were mostly ceremonies, cultural, social, political and religious portraits, publics, positions, architecture, etc. In 1941AD (1320 Persian Calendar) photography changed into a journalistic character and Irans photography entered to a new style. It was always a testimonial beside the main events and was the best tool to note and transmit events like the revolution, the war, political-social evolutions, etc. In the past decades as technology got improved, digital photography was created and it is less than a decade that Iranian contemporary photography has entered to the international markets and is financially changed to an artistic valuable concept. As Iranian contemporary photography is a new event, it may face some disturbance in the markets and we should be careful about this. Market considers the financial part of the works only, not the conceptual part of them. Presenting high qualified works and holding expositions can prevent disturbing the concept of all contemporary arts. In fact contemporary art is going to reach new addressees not some specific ones and this is possible only through recognizing talented artists and showing their works. I hope the expositions help us to reach our goal.
